DIGITAL-VIDEO PRODUCERS looking for a PCI card for video production can now turn to Data Translation's Media 100, version 2.5. Currently the only video-production system for the entire Power Mac PCI-based series, the Media 100 includes such features as Betacam SP input, real-time effects, and eight-track audio mixing.
The Media 100's hardware component, now dubbed Vincent, is a single PCI card, rather than two NuBus cards. Vincent incorporates the same 68030 processor and 40-MHz DSP for audio mixing and video effects as the NuBus version but with new integrated components that support Betacam SP input.
Data Translation has updated the software as well. There's a spate of enhancements in version 2.5, including ColorFX, for altering colors in a video on the fly (on optional configurations), and support for up to eight audio tracks with real-time mixing and volume control during playback. The software now takes advantage of more of the power built into the Vincent hardware, for faster video production. $8,995. The Whole Deal package is $18,990.
